10 Reasons to Stay in Southern Indiana - March Edition!

          With Spring Break right around the corner, we understand that it might not be in your budget to head down to Panama City Beach, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a good and memorable time right in your own backyard! Here are some of the events that you can attend to have one of the most memorable Spring Breaks without breaking the bank!

            Kye’s is at it again with the 11th Annual Chili & Brew Bonanza! For just $20, you can enjoy chili and beer tastings, live music, and even a silent auction. What a way to kick off Spring Break! Tickets can be purchased online, or at the door. This fun-filled festival is going to occur on March 3rd, and will begin at 5:30p and will end at 8:30p. This will be held in Kye’s II at 500 Missouri Avenue Jeffersonville, IN 47130.

            Come watch the stars light up the sky at one of Laconia’s Evening at the Observatory in South Harrison Park! We welcome you to bring the whole family, for this event is suited for all ages. They will be hosting two of these nights during the month of March. The first will be on March 5th, and the second on March 12th. Both will begin at 7:30p, and will end at 9:30p. A gate fee into the park may apply, but the event itself is free-of-charge!

            Alright, History buffs, this one is for YOU! On March 5th, Corydon will be hosting a historic dinner in the Corydon Capitol museum located at 202 E. Walnut Street Corydon, IN 47112. Tickets are only $25, and are purchased at the door. Doors open at 6p, and the event will end at 8p. This feast will include a speech from Governor Jennings! Be ready to drink, dine, and be entertained 1816 style! Open to ALL ages!

            This one is for all of our marathon runners, and our craft beer drinkers! Flat12 Bierwerks in Jeffersonville is hosting a 5K on March 6th. Just a fair warning, this isn’t just any ordinary marathon. This marathon requires you to chase leprechauns through Downtown Jeffersonville. That’s right- LEPRECHAUNS! Dress in GREEN and chase the leprechauns to the finish line. If you pass said leprechauns, you win a prize! This marathon is 1 of 6 themed runs that will occur throughout 2016. The prices for entrants are as listed below:

  • $100 for all 6 runs (Earlybird entrant)
  • $110 for all 6 runs (Normal entrant)
  • $20 per person per run

            Are YOU the MASTER CHILI COOK, or do you just absolutely LOVE to eat chili? No matter which applies to you, New Albany invites YOU to join them for their Soup & Chili Cookoff on March 7th. This FREE event will be located at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library in the Strassweg Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30p, and will remain open until 8p. Registration for entrants is REQUIRED. To register, call the Reference Services Department at (812)949-3523. Entrants are asked to make and bring 4 quarts of chili to be judged and sampled. People of ALL ages are welcome to attend.

            Remember when you were a kid and you got to go hunt Easter Eggs and you got all of those goodies? The people in Historic Corydon say that Easter Egg hunts are no longer just for children. On March 12th, feel free to browse through Downtown Corydon while you search for Easter Eggs in participating merchants. The eggs are filled with free merchandise or coupons from the merchants. Be sure to pick up your game card and get it stamped by all of the participating merchants to be able to enter to win a $100, $50, or a $25 gift certificate! The hunt will begin at 10a, and won’t end until 5p! This hunt is FREE and welcome to kids of ALL ages!

            Did you just say “yes” to the perfect man? Are you looking for ways to top off your big day? Look no more! On March 13th, the Pepin Mansion in New Albany is hosting the “She Said Yes” bridal show. This bridal show is free of charge, and the doors open at 1p, and close at 5p.             If you’re looking to fulfil your sense of adventure, the people at Marengo Caves invite you to join them for the first cave trip in the series of cave trips they are offering this year. On March 26th, for just $33, you can join the cave explorers in Marengo! These trips are recommended for ages 10 and up. This particular trip is limited to 22 crawlers.             Throughout the month of March, Derby Dinner Playhouse in Clarksville, is presenting two famous and child-friendly plays; Into the Woods and Charlotte’s Web! Ticket prices vary depending on which day of the week and what time you play to attend the play. They range from $37-$43. Keep in mind that this is dinner AND a show!             Looking for a way to spend your Saturday afternoons in the month of March? Indian Creek Winery has your solution!
